Participation

Students must be prepared and must participate actively in all class meetings.

Written Assignments

Students must write five short essays (4-5 pages, double-spaced) covering conceptual themes developed in the course. Essay due dates are indicated on the syllabus. Topics will be assigned approximately one week in advance. Re-writes will be required for two of the five essays submitted. Re-writes must be completed in the week following the due date of the original essay. Informal writing exercises will also be required approximately every other week throughout the semester. 

Film Screenings

Attendance at film screenings is strongly recommended. If necessary, you may arrange to view the films on your own through Media Services at the Sunderland Language Center. Screenings are indicated on the course schedule.
